Understanding IP Ratings for Electric Radiator Elements
Bathroom Zones & Safety Requirements
In the UK, bathrooms are divided into "Zones" based on their proximity to water sources. To comply with BS 7671 (Wiring Regulations), your radiator element must meet the minimum IP rating for its specific location.

Installation Requirements
To ensure your radiator is safe and compliant with UK building regulations, please note the following:
- Qualified Professional: All electric elements must be installed by a Part P qualified electrician.
- Hardwiring: Elements in a bathroom must be "hardwired" into a switched fused spur located outside of the bathroom zones (usually outside the bathroom door or in a cupboard).
- RCD Protection: The circuit must be protected by an RCD (Residual Current Device) to automatically shut off power in the event of a fault.
- Sealing: Ensure the element is correctly fitted with its rubber O-ring to prevent leaks and protect the internal electronics.
