Which Radiator Valves Do I Need?

Choosing the right radiator valves depends on your pipework layout and pipe size, as well as how you want to control temperature.

Choosing the right radiator valves depends on your pipework layout, pipe size, and desired temperature control.

Step 1 – Check Your Pipework

  • Pipes from the Floor: Use Straight valves.

  • Pipes from the Wall: Use Angled or Corner valves.

Step 2 – Check Your Pipe Size

Most UK homes use 15mm pipework. Some older or smaller systems use 10mm pipes or microbore.
Our valves are typically 15mm standard, but we also offer valves with 10mm to 15mm reducers for compatibility without modifying pipework.
Separate reducers are available for purchase: 10mm to 15mm Pipe Reducers.

Types of Radiator Valves

  • Straight Valves: For pipes coming straight from the floor.

  • Angled Valves (Most Common): 90° bend suitable for floor or wall pipework.

  • Corner Valves: Ideal for pipes from the wall; provides a cleaner, more compact finish.

Step 3 – TRV or Manual Valves?

  • Thermostatic Radiator Valves (TRV): Automatically regulate room temperature and improve energy efficiency. Best for living areas and bedrooms.

  • Manual Valves: Simple on/off control, operate like a tap. Best for bathrooms and towel radiators.

Quick Selection Guide

  • Pipes from floor: Angled or Straight valves.

  • Pipes from wall: Corner valves (neatest option).

  • Standard pipe size: 15mm valves.

  • Smaller pipes (10mm): Use reducers or compatible valves.

  • Temperature control: TRV valves.

  • Simple setup: Manual valves.
